2011 Hennessey's World SUP and Paddleboard Championships

On Saturday, September 17th, 2011, Hennessey’s Taverns of California is proud to host the Hennessey’s World SUP and Paddleboard Championships in beautiful Hermosa Beach, California.

We have an exciting line-up of races, headlined by the new seven-mile Elite course. (If you aren’t sure if you are qualified, please contact the WPA to determine your status.) For those of you who have not yet qualified, we WILL be running a four-mile SUP qualifier for the Elite race first thing that morning. Top three of each division (not age group) will qualify and go into the Elite race at no extra charge. For those of you who are not novices, but not necessarily Elite, this is the perfect race for you. Even if you don’t want participate in the headlining race, this will be the competitive race below the Elites with medals awarded for top three in each division - Stock, 14’, Unlimited and Wahine.

All prone paddleboarders will NOT have to qualify to participate in the Elite race; therefore, all prone paddlers will be racing the seven-mile race.

We will also have the three-mile Fun Race for novices. Again, medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division.

Afterwards, in the race tradition of Hennessey’s Taverns and the Southern California Paddleboard Club, a full-blown luau, complete with roasted pigs, will follow immediately on the Hermosa Beach Promenade. Come hang out at the beer garden with your fellow racers, eat and drink, listen to great live music and enjoy the award ceremony and massive raffle.

  • All races South of the Hermosa Beach Pier at 8:30 AM
  • Water start and Beach finish.

  • 1st Place - $1000
  • 2nd Place - $600
  • 3rd Place - $400
Trophies:
Top three in all age groups and divisions will receive a gold, silver or bronze medal.
Safety:
  • You must bring your own liquid and nutrition on your board. Lifeguards and safety escorts will be in the water for duration of race if needed.
  • Any paddler who is having difficulty may be taken out of the water at the race director’s discretion.
  • The race will be called after four hours. Any paddler who does not complete the race within four hours will be taken out of the water.
Schedule:
  • Check-in and final registration begins at 6:30 am in front of Hennessey’s in Hermosa Beach.
  • Once you’ve checked in you will receive your race jersey.
  • Goodie bags given after the race.
  • Racing will begin at 7:45 AM - SHARP
  • Elite Qualifier - 7:45 AM
  • Fun Race - 9:30 AM
  • Elite Race - 10:45 AM

RACE BOARD STORAGE

Tarsan Stand Up Paddle Board Store has generously offered the racers in the Hennessey's World SUP and Paddleboard Race, Board Storage. You can store your boards in a secure garage from NOON, Friday, Sept. 16 - NOON, Sunday, Sept. 18. Tarsan's is located at 936 Hermosa Ave. #105, Hermosa Beach, CA.

Registration:
Entry Fee: $100
  • Pre-register by mail or on line by September 16, 2011 (Enter early to guarantee goody bag! )
  • Late entries $120 after July 16th  (CASH ONLY ON RACE DAY)
  • Late entries will be accepted until September 17th at 7:30 am.
  • “NO board size changes will be accepted once you have registered for a board division”
  • Entry fee includes lunch, finisher awards, board shorts and a race T-shirt and race jersey. The awards banquet will feature a luau with live entertainment


Elgibility - Open to men and women at least 18 years of age. (17 & under must have signed parental/guardian form.) Race director reserves the right to refuse participation to entrants for any reason.
